JOANNA PAWŁOWSKA “FIXATION”
Exhibition organised as part of the Opole Festival of Photography

“...FIXATION steers my gaze through fragmentary images, maniacally distilled from broader perspectives, gradually drawing me into a state close to the titular one. It’s a state of electrification from the tension between casual wandering around environments, situations, and contexts, and a fixation on the shapes, colours, and rhythms of the matter – regardless of whether they are alive or not. Between innocent psychogeography and obsessive observation. In the end, there will always exist some kind of a trigger, one which catches the eye and sharpens focus, triggering a narrative which is dispersing freely into different directions.”  Joanna Pawłowska

Joanna Pawłowska graduated from the Faculty of Multimedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań. She has exhibited her works in Berlin, Bratislava, Warsaw, Ahaus, Poznań, Kraków and Łódź, among others. Lecturer at the Academy of Photography in Kraków. Joanna is interested in photography based on personal experience, as well as the process, the form and the associative aspect of an image.

At the festival, she will exhibit her photographs from the album entitled “Fixation”, published at the end of last year.

The book, which contains photographs taken between 2013 and 2018, is a study of time and space, in which reality and one’s own experience leave a trace and what is marginal gains in significance.
